Services Provided: 1) Programs - Educational Programs (Languages, Computers etc.) - Fitness programs - Arts and Craft classes - Dance Classes - Wellness classes 2) Activities - Drop in Activities (Ping Pong, Billiards etc.) - Card games (Bridge, Whist, Crib etc.) - Social Events (Dances, Dinners, Potlucks) 3) Food Service - Cafeteria Service - Collective Kitchen 4) Outreach services - Assistance with senior benefit forms - Financial information, - Income tax assistance - Referrals - Heath and wellness information - Home Help Registry - Driving & hauling (shopping, appointments, cleanup, etc.) - Home maintenance (repairs, windows, doors, painting, decorating) - Yardwork (snow removal, spring clean up, gardening, lawn maintenance) - Mobile hairdresser - Housekeeping & house sitting - Electrical & plumbing repairs - Carpet & rug cleaning - Delivery of pet supplies & grocery pick up service - Friendly visits - Friendly phone calls - Referrals to legal resource - Advocate on behalf of seniors who need service - Bereavement service - Community presentations - Collective kitchen - for those seniors who find difficulty in cooking - or who may be on a tight budget - Blood Pressure, flu, hearing clinics, foot care - Food services - Counselling - Newsletter - Room rentals - Volunteer opportunities - Support Groups 5) Community Partnerships (on Site) - Eldercare - Meals on Wheels - Capital Health programs and services - Other initiatives as needed (City of Edmonton, Government of Alberta, etc.)
The Westend Seniors Activity Centre was founded as the Edmonton Self Starters Organization in 1978. For more than 25 years, this organization has supported seniors in west Edmonton providing social, recreation, health, fitness and special interest activities to help seniors remain active and vital. Westend Seniors gives seniors age 55 and up the opportunity to lead an active, healthy lifestyle. Every day the Centre is filled with seniors taking part in educational, recreational, and social programs - everything from art classes and card tournaments, to aerobics and computer classes. Most importantly, Westend Seniors brings seniors together, giving them a place to socialize and share experiences, and making them part of a supportive community. Our Mission Our mission is "to contribute to the healthy aging of seniors by providing opportunities for involvement and active living". Membership A nominal membership fee of $25.00 per year qualifies you for participation in all our programs, activities and services. Our calendar year runs from January to December. This nominal fee also allows us to enter you into our database, to update you on new programs and events and allows us to produce our newsletter.
